Decided to Stay Flat

I have visions of a carbon road bike, with curly bars, probably brought on by all of the "putting drops" on hybrids threads. As I rode along this morning, I decided to stay flat, at least for today, based on the following:

Flat denotes speed, as in "flat out". I even think that WFO must mean "Wide Flat Open".

Drops denotes lack of speed, as in "I got dropped by the group" or "I dropped back".

When a guy in drops gets a flat, he is unaccustomed to it, and has to have someone from his support car run up and give him a whole new wheel.

When a guy with flats gets a flat, it's like a double negative, so nothing happens. He changes it and keeps riding.

In a group, flats let you sit up nicely and have a view. Drops, especially being in them, gets you a view of spandex (it's lycra, darn it!!) covered bottoms.

And then there is the whole criminal element associated with drops: subversive druggies "dropping acid" and squealers and rats "dropping the dime". If all of these people rode with their mouths closed, nothing would happen.

And finally, the entire world was flat until some Italian dude, working for a foreign Queen, convinced them otherwise. When have the Italians ever done anything good for cycling?

So I'm staying flat. At least today.

I'm not entirely sure what 'druggie bars' are, or were, but I'm almost sure they weren't flats.

Awsome post.

Haha some funny stuff.
Why choose between drops and flats when you can have a better alternative: aerobar

If you get angry while riding aerobars, do you go AeroPostale?
