86 Miyata 710, my son's bike
I'm pleased as all get-out that my son is showing interest again in two wheels. When he took up long-boarding we continued to ride together, but we had an ongoing battle about which was better 4 wheels or 2.
Then at christmas break we spent a weekend in Austin at the Driskill on 6th, where he boarded the local streets, but was impressed with the hipster gangs on their fast bikes, and a Masi track bike on display in a shop. When we returned home he asked about having a fast bike, so we built up this Miyata that I was about to trade away because it was too small for me, but it fits him perfectly.
He mentioned something about "neon wheels". I'll have to figure out what he's talking about later.

Nice build! I am glad the frame went to your son rather than me. I really enjoy the look in my son's face when I give him things I "created". It is one of the "priceless" moments in life that I wouldn't trade for anything!!
Congrats!

Thanks guys, and especially fas2c, for your understanding.
I truly enjoy riding with my son, no matter how we roll. It was hard keeping up with him on the board, maybe it won't look so bad this way.
Yes spurious they are great wheels, but with 16 y.o. it is a bit about fashion.

Hipsters often go the route of gaudy neon color schemes (in the loosest sense of the word "scheme"), and personally I think it often looks like cobbled together crap, more for the execution than the conception. However, in the case of this Miyata, I think a set of bright yellow rims might set off the headtube and decals nicely.

Thanks for the pic Jar.
We were standing on the street listening to a band inside, and some riders came by with wheels glowing from the street lights.
You're right, yellow wheels would "go", but I'm not going to mention it.
