Deore LX-cross country<downhill/freeride?

Deore LX-cross country<downhill/freeride?
It seems like the Deore LX components are more towards freeriding and harder riding. I just bought the new front derailluer, and it's a lot more heavy duty than the old one. It's HUGE! The new LX derailluer is heavier than the deore too. There are other examples too. Anyone think so too, or am I just crazy?

LX is bigger because it is adjustable between top and bottom pull...but..I do think you are crazy, front deraileurs don't have to be heavy duty

I don't know too many people that chew through front mechs regularly. I've seen people with 15 year old bikes with the original suntour front mech on it. Hell, I hardly use my front derailleur and it's a Deore.
