I'm not well versed in derailleur setups since all my bikes have hub gears. I'm doing some maintenance on a friends Mu P8 (2007) and I think the freehub body is shot since there's a lot of play there and the bearings feel rough. I've just discovered I need a 12mm allen key (it looks like 12 to me but could be 11) to take the freehub off. . . I don't have one just yet. Anyone know what might serve as a replacement or will I have to order a whole new Kinetix hub?

The fixing bolt appears not to be an allen fitting but rather something like this:



I'm not sure what sort of tool I need.

Shimano uses a 10mm allen wrench, to split the driver from the hub, by removing a similar tubular bolt.
perhaps that is just a 12 point rather than a 6 point

Kinetex a cheaper Caprio version?, IDK, check w the Dealer..

Did you find a solution to this? Decided a few days ago to take a closer look at my sons Kinetix hub to try to give you an answer, and I`ll try to finish it today, he wants his bike back.

I have done this before on some MTB hub, and I can not remember having any problems finding a tool. I am sure I used the biggest (10mm) allen key.

Trying to do so on this hub is not working. The 10mm slides trough with no resistance.

I agree with fietsbob it could be a 12 point rather than 6, but it is not a 10mm.

Only 12mm I have is not long enough to reach where it should. It is quite short, a socket type of allen key bought to use with a tourche wrench.

My guess is that what you need is a long enough 12mm allen key.
