Tour de Mississauga

I have just started cycling again after 15 years and am really enjoying it.

I was recently put onto the Tour de Mississauga, which I know is not a race but a more social ride, which sounds like a perfect platform for me to ride the 60km route.

My question is whether my bike can handle the non-road portions of the route. I have a Specialized Sirrus Elite, it is a hybrid but has thin tires (factory stock, but still very good from my understanding).

Do you think my bike can handle the non-road parts?

Thanks!

The bike will handle some off road paths, like crushed gravel or dirt road just fine. I think the stock tires on a Sirrus are 28, right? I also have a Sirrus, but changed my tires to 32 right away, as I was touring and commuting on the bike. I ride on rail to trails on it with no problems.

Do you know what the route is? Can you go and check out some of the off-road parts?

And welcome back to cycling, enjoy!

Thanks Lucille! I would love to change the tires but I just bought the bike and i'm not sure I can spend any more on it right now! I will go and check out some of the paths and see, plus I am going to go back to my LBS (for a fine tune fitting) and I'll ask them as they are in the area and probably familiar with the ride.

Understandable. If the bike is still new, ask your LBS and ask if they can swap the tires for wider ones. It may not be too late, if you want to do that.

If at some point you do want to buy new tires, these are the ones that I use. Highly recommended.
