I've been honked at and/or shotgunned while coasting up to a red (in my car).

"Hey, Einstein, the light is RED!"
Most drivers don't think ahead more than 5 seconds.

The lights in Lancaster city are timed for a 25mph speed. If you hit one green, you'll hit them all. It seems that no one else is aware of this though, so you have people gunning it to get to the next red light.

The idea in the OP's article is great. Anything to get drivers to obey the speed limit. I'm afraid it's just going to lead to more red light running as drivers figure out that there is no cross traffic waiting to go.

I like it, except ... with speeders triggering red it's going to happen frequently and the lights will wind up defaulting to some basic cycle. So why not simply time the lights to a lower speed to begin with, to pretty much the same effect?

It wouldn't give anybody in A&S fodder for posts.

Moderate to rush hour traffic - true. But in late night, light traffic it is not true and it could be useful in getting some of those guys to slow down.

Middle of the night cycle commuting, I want the lights along the main roads to stay green as long as possible. I do not want them turning red when there is no side street traffic.
