There is one road locally that I learned that driving the speed limit allowed a green light all the way through. Drive too slowly, you get stopped, too fast and you catch up to red lights. The speed limit is 40 mph (IIRC) and if you drive 38-40, you'll catch a green light all the way into town.

The idea in the OP's article is great. Anything to get drivers to obey the speed limit. I'm afraid it's just going to lead to more red light running as drivers figure out that there is no cross traffic waiting to go.

I like it, except ... with speeders triggering red it's going to happen frequently and the lights will wind up defaulting to some basic cycle. So why not simply time the lights to a lower speed to begin with, to pretty much the same effect?

Cycle Year Round
Middle of the night cycle commuting, I want the lights along the main roads to stay green as long as possible. I do not want them turning red when there is no side street traffic.
