SART closed for 18 months between 91 and Lakeview. Anybody know why?

As the title says, I saw the signs today saying a mile of the SART is closed for a year and a half, until Oct 1st, 2015. The trail was still open and I saw nothing suggesting what was happening, but all the detour signs are already up to lead you off the SART and onto the road for a mile or so.

18 months seems like a long time to shut it down.

What do you think the detour will be? Riverdale?

That's a long time but it's still less than they've shut down Coyote Creek. I believe it took them less time to redo the underpasses on SGRT in a few places but that was also shut down for what felt like forever.

I normally get on the path at Tustin when I ride from home, I hope that's still feasible.

I rode from the coast to the RV Park both ways on Thursday and followed all the posted detours. The section between Warner and McFadden is closed with barriers on the path, detour puts you onto Harbor Blvd. The section between Tustin and Lakeview was still unblocked, and the detour is indeed Riverdale. The setup looks like there will be Westbound access at Tustin.

It looks like the closure is part of the improvements to SR-91.

Is the blocked off part between Warner and McFadden the part that was supposed to be completed by January 2014 or something? It's sporadically blocked off.

Welcome to BikeForums by the way.

I've just lurked around here for almost a year after making an account, but I finally had something especially relevant to post about! Thanks for the welcome.

I do remember that first section being closed in the past with the same detour route, and also remember it reopening. There's only the Edinger overpass in that section so maybe they're working on it again.

Yes, welcome Selicate, and thanks for the info. It does seem to be all about the 91 expansion.

TrojanHorse, i took the detour on my way out to Corona, so you can see where it starts and ends here:

If it is the same crew that is doing the underpass on Kramer I'd say the work will be done in 5 years or so. That project is so slow it has to be a "by the hour" job

So, according to the original announcement this work should be finished by now and the trail open. Anyone know what the current status actually is? Can't seem to find anything about it online.

Have ridden SART in the last few weeks, work has been completed, so no detours. Jim
