Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Question about PureFix Pro...

Hey guys,

I'm new to the forums, and new(ish) to the fixed gear world. I had a really old Bianchi Pista when I lived in Japan, but did not ride it too much as a lot of the terrain was really terrible for learning. Anyway, now I live in Washington and I'm hoping to get another bike. I am looking at the PureFix Pro complete from mrbikeshop.com. No clue whether or not this retailer is reputable, just saw the best price offered currently. Hoping someone can tell me if this bike is decent quality or if I should steer clear? Having a difficult time finding any reviews. I did, however, find some information about PureFix being pretty bad in 2014. Not sure if that is still relevant. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

-Andrew

Best thing to do is find a good shop in your area and try bikes out there. I generally try to steer clear of online shops for many reasons and also am not a huge fan of PureFix, I sold them for two years at my old shop and they were cheap single speeds and that is about it. The pro series are aero shaped aluminum frame and fork which is going to give you a pretty uncomfortable ride on the road but hey you will look "cool"

If I absolutely had to buy a bike online because there was literally nothing in a 100 mile radius, I would probably go for a Wabi they tend to get great reviews and they make all their stuff using nice comfortable and quality steel (not just cheap hi-ten or slightly better generic 4130).

Thank you for the information! I've been trying to find a decent shop, but I am near Seattle and it seems like everything just caters to "fixie" hipsters. That's not my thing. I'm looking for a quality ride that also makes sense. Fixed gear has always interested me and I'm a little interested in trying out the drome, there's one about 40 minutes away from me.

Anyway. I am going to check out Wabi, thanks! I was hoping to come up on a decent LOOK frame, but I don't know what I'm buying as far as parts go...it seems really difficult to sift through the BS in the fixed gear world, right now, because they're so "trendy".
