Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I like it but i dont have a lot of experience with diffrent kinds of bars, I'm just working with what I've got. It feels a lot better than the bars being upright though

I do see it. In person the head tube still looks slack like a road bike.

Hate to repost the same bike twice in this thread, but I had an absolutely epic ride on my SS Pugsley. I summited the highest peak in my state, Mt. Greylock, over 4.5 hours of singlespeed pushing and hike-a-bike up the iced-over auto road to the summit.

Temperature was about 4ºF before windchill. Frozen planet!

Here's a write-up about the climb on my site, with a ton of pictures of the iced-over summit: Fatbiking to the Summit of Mt. Greylock

My Single Speed

I also put this on the commuting group. I've had this Rockhopper since new. I'm thinking it was 1985 and it has been through a lot of different setups since. I'm really enjoying the simplicity of a single speed. I finally got the gearing sorted out 38:18 seems to be perfect with the winter studs.

Great blog post. I got thirsty myself just reading that you were out of water.

Really enjoyed it.
