help me choose my colour scheme.
hey ya'll
so im building my new fixie. ive got the frame good and ready. what im looking for is a good alternation between red and black. the frame now is a glossy black, but im thinking of sanding it down and going for a matt black.
here is the spec list and colour.
Bars: Bullhorns - Black
Brake Levers: Bar ends - Black
Brake Cables: Red cable covers
Stem: Red
Headset: Black
Chainring: Red
Chain: Black
Wheels: Black
Tyres: Black with red lines
Saddle: Red/Black
Seat Clamp: Red
Pedals: Black
hopefully the red isnt too much, im looking for a nice even alternate.

Black and red can look great together, if you don't over do it. Use the red wisely as an accent color, not a secondary color. See the Dolan posted for more infoz.

Agree that red should be an accent, not a secondary color.
I would go with your first rendering, but with the black cranks and chain ring.

No to colored chain, crank/chain ring, and stem.
Stems must ONLY be black or silver. The only exception is if your stem is custom made and painted to match your custom frame. This is not my opinion, it is a hard rule than must be obeyed.

Agree! I'd leave the stem black and throw a red Chris King Headset in there to accent the red seat post collar

I like all components and fasteners to be black or silver. No colors. Ever.** On any bike.
To me colored components take the eye away from what (IMO) should be colored, the frame and fork. I like both, subdued monochromatic paint jobs as well as loud obnoxious wild paint jobs.
But that's just me. If someone likes purple hubs with orange rims and green tires, that's what they should have. It's their bike and they should only care about what makes them happy.
** Gold chains are allowed.

haha thats fair enough. black and red is my favorite colour combo, hence why im going for it. i guess going for a red chain is a waste of time, it will be black in no time anyway once ive got all of the parts (hopefully the end of this month) ill be doing a build log, probably under the singlespeed & fixed gear section (unless there is a specific build log place).

No build log sub forum, so you'd have to do it here in the SS/FG section. Just a heads up though, build threads seem to be hated here. Big time. In the C&V section they are warmly received, in fact, loved. But here you'll just catch a ton of grief here. Not sure why it's like that here.

Your saddle and bar angle will soon be collecting a metric ton of smart ass comments though.
