Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Newb (to the forum) saying hi.

Hey, just joined this BB. My name's Eddie. I ride in NYC. I've been riding for years. have owned many, many bikes. Ridden road, DH, DJ and now ride a Bianchi Pista daily. It's my first dedicated fixed bike (had a road conversion before). Just wanted to say what's up.

Welcome.

I like those Pistas for a factory bike in the $500 range.

THat's the funny thing about the Pista hating hipsters. The Pista a real track bike (legit geometry). The fuji track isn't (road geometry). IRO isn't (road geometry).

If you hate real track bikes something is up with you.

Speaking of factory bikes the cool people don't like, Here's one of my favorites with real track geometry (only thing I'd switch out are the wheels. The Sugino 75 stays)

**** if someone's insecure enough to worry about "hipsters" riding "their" kind of bike then they're truly sad. anyway, i thought all the billburg kids rode 80s schwinn conversions while they saved up for IROs. fyi i'm not a messenger. i don't do alleycats. i just ride. whatevs

Nah, I don't the majority of the people here are not that ignorant or insecure, but I have read posts where they put down mainstream bikes, etc. ( Person b1tching about Pista probably has an old road conversion with a mismatched chainline with low BB that gets pedal strikes, but it's better than your bike cuz he invented it)

All we are trying to say is just ignore it. Obviously any intelligent person would not go sell a real track bike to get a road conversion or less well known brand with road geometry just to impress some people who are beginning to feel insecure about their "undergroundness" and their "uniqueness".

Ride the bike for what it does and how it performs, not it's image. You already knew that though.

IRO has some nice options (Deep V wheelset for example). It's just the frame geometry isn't what I would want.

All hail the almighty Pista! Funny what you said 53-11_alltheway; it's true that out of the many fixed-gear bikes you'll see in the street the Bianchi is one of the few true track geometry bikes out there. I go to watch velodrome races frequently here in Northbrook and I see Pista riders regularly in the front. It's a temperamental ride (not as forgiving as those luxurious Schwinns or IROs) but once you get a handle on it its actually one of the faster rigs out there.

Track geometry is a higher performance design. Even my road bike (which I ride in pretty forward style ) has steeper seat tube angle than that IRO and Fuji.

High forward seat makes more power than low rearward seat and lets you drop the bars more to be more aerodynamic.

I say if you like this kind of riding you should buy a Pista even if guy with crooked chainline and pedal strikes thinks he is cooler. Who cares what he thinks. You are one riding the bike, not him.

off topic....anyone have actual experience w/ Felt track bikes. i'm thinking of getting a Felt frame/fork, and i have the sugino 75's from another bike. it's tempting.
