Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? sunday is great, but we can't do my hood (stores i want to show you are all closed, sadly)...

who wants to cover another spot of ground?

newcomers to this thread that don't want to read through the beginning posts:
purpose of this ride is to show off the literary and liquorary hotspots of your hood. places for beer and places for books. this ride isn't for "drinkers" only and its not for "readers" only, but it is meant to lean a bit more to the reading aspect of things --- simply because there are fewer places to get books than there are to get beers, and thus those places need to be focused on a bit more. almost all rides revolve around booze anyhow, this one merely has it as an afterthought.

fire away fellow peoples:

"Phoenix Books is turning 21 tonight and we're doing it up in style the only way we know how -- getting WASTED. Free drinks, books on sale, and a bunch of rowdy booksellers getting extremely uninhibited... what's not to like? Festivities start at 6:00 PM and go till the break of dawn or 9 PM, whichever comes first.

Be there!

Phoenix Books
3850 24th Street (at Vicksburg, one block west from Church St.)"

Anyone wanna go with me?

likewise!

your hosting was absolutely aok. i didnt catch the name of that cat, but gosh what a little snuggler it was!

(i'll be away from the city until about 2pm on saturday... and free all sunday, but the stuff in my neighborhood is closed sunday --- so if the ride were to happen on sunday it'd have to either be without books, or without the tenderloin.)

Work is looming for saturday, and if I somehow manage to elude it, I'm being told I need to participate in the brides of march.

Still, I keep hope alive.

Well, I have sprained my thumb, so I cannot ride. I can drink and read, however.

I was/am looking forward to meeting and hanging out with you guys--maybe I can give someone my digits and you'll call when you're in the Mission?

okay --- enthusiasm might officially be gone, but why not beat a dead horse anyhow?

if anyone is grouping together saturday to ride around to book stores and a bar afterwards, they should speak up now. if anyone is doing it on sunday, speak up as well. this doesn't need to be so hard, or organized, or so hard to organize..

i leave the internet at the office, so as of 4pm today i am out of touch completely, unless onetwentyeight calls me saturday or sunday to say "you'll never believe this, but everyone is together and we are all doing the books and beer ride!!! come on!" i'm hoping that's the case, because it sure would be fun to ride around and look in bookstores that i've never been in, and finish it off with a good beer or scotch or something.

I'll be riding around on Saturday, we a few others. Maybe our groups can meet up and we can have a rumble?

Oh, and don't know how many bookstores we'll hit, but I know how many bars!
