26.0 bars in a 25.4 stem?
I know this has been answered before, but for the life of me, I can't get anything out of google.
26.0 bars in a 25.4 stem - bad idea? How much difference does a .2 mm difference in diameter, and a .6mm in circumfrence make?

viola!
nitto shims
edit: i'm dyslexic!
second edit: i've done the 26 bars in a 25.4 stem before.
loosen the stem bolt to an extreme, then pry the stem open
with a flat head screw driver while inserting bars ...now, viola!

I would be wary of doing this with aluminum bars, but steel should be ok.

My 26.0 bullhorns are holding up just fine after 6 months of this (in a SR stem).
The danger is in the clamping area of the stem. If the two sharp edges are pinching the bar, then it is under more stress there, and could lead to cracking.

I tried it with my nitto bullhorns, and I couldn't even get them around the bend, even with a slight spreading. Of course it was an old SR stem too, so maybe that has something to do with it?

If it's a closed face stem, you might be able to wangle it in, but i really wouldn't do it. The amount you have to bend the face of the stem to fit the bars is considerable, and a broken stem is a nightmare.

I would probably file the edges of the (open face) stem if I wanted to try this.

I have a pair of old Cinelli road bars that are installed in an SR stem. These must be pre 98 bars, meaning 26.8. I cannot move those mother****ers AT ALL. I'm selling them with the stem, so that if someone else wants to dremel it off, they can. How it was installed is beyond me.
