Steinwerks Hubs...
http://www.steinwerks.com/activism.html
They sponsor people who might not be able to afford quality hubs... Products seem decent... anyone know of them? Maybe a group purchase? To get their product some exposure? |
I tried for half of last year to get a pair of these hubs after the owner said he would sell them to me at cost since there is no local dealer in Austin. The fellow comes back later and says he can't get liability insurance, so he can't sell me the hubs. I offered to sign a waiver or whatever, but no dice. Good luck.
|
I would sell some unessential part of my anatomy for a set of these. Anybody in the market for a little toe?
|
Yeah, weird thing... I tried to get them too, but got the same 'insurance' excuse.
|
group buy these hubs maybe?
|
Weird. It seems like these are not really on the market yet. They look pretty cool though.
|
Over the summer, I called up the one dealer they had listed. They were nice, but the guy I talked to had never actually heard of steinworks.

I've sent a bunch of emails through the site and never had any response.

Unobtanium? High flange? Stupid smooth ceramic bearings?! OMGZERZ SIGN ME UP!
The only other hubs I've messed with that had that type of "'C' clamp design" were White Industries tandem hubs and it was the most frivilous, hard to adjust mechanism this side of mid 90s Campy free hub bodies. |
Do they even exist? Sounds like all we have to go on is pictures on some website. Have these ever been spotted in the wild. Anyone can have a set of hubs machined in whatever shape they want. It's even easier if they don't actually have to work, just look good...
Hey their marketing speak sounds good, and the pictures look great, but whenever they use terms like "available" and "on the market" I have to snicker. Claims that these hubs are available put into question the veracity of other claims they make about their hubs. |
These things look like modified and upgrade Normandy's
|
This is a little OT, but speaking of sweet hubs, who's got Macks?? I want pics.
|
These look nice and fancy and all that, but it's not like there's
a lack of high-end track hubs out there. I don't really see what these guys are bringing to the table that Dura-Ace or Phil isn't already offering. Nevermind the fact that these basically don't even exist. |
A new aesthetic is what I see... kinda like those mack hubs.. I love the industrial raw look.

indistinguishable from Phils, especially at a distance of more than a few feet. http://www.steinwerks.com/Images/front.jpg http://www.philwood.com/slroption.jpg Both look great, but I don't see a substantial difference. |
It's all about the small details.. like the machining around the spoke holes on the macks:

See, I think those Macks stand out a lot more from the other
two. Definitely more of an industrial, machine-age look. I dig 'em. |
Yeah, I mean they're all incredible, but ya can't have too many of a good thing ;)
|
not to mention those huge ****ing beefy ass lockrings
