Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Dtret, there's no need to go out of your way to be that big of a jerk. There's nothing wrong with that bike. How is it even possible to get that worked up over someone buying nice things?

first of all there is something wrong with that bike.
1) unplugged drops are dangerous and not legal for racing.
2) untaped ones are just dumb
3) it doesn't fit the owner
4) 49/13 is not a reasonable gear
5) He made a big deal about how he couldn't put a brake on cause it was a real track bike and that would be tarck but then has a tarck as **** bike anyway
6) He insists that he needs the fastest possible wheels for under 2k before he's even raced but hasn't even bothered to buy appropriate shoes or any other clothing.
So yes it is a jackass bike.

It's not like I went way out of my way for this picture. I only live 30min from the track and this bike like every new post he makes was far more funny than I expected. Also I didn't bother get a picture of him on the bike to post. I think this should go back to being the jackass bicycle thread not the jackass cyclist thread.

I think the owner is just a jackass, the bike seems better than most posted here.

i think what everyone is saying is- why not befriend the guy and help him learn whats right... instead of judging him like an *******, and perpetuating the hate.

there's a learning curve for anything and some people save up money before they buy things, some people like to spend it in large amounts on a whim and i don't think you should get to decide for others whats right. neither of those reasons would justify your outlook on the end result. in end the end we're all just players in this life- and while your life may be played better conservatively purchasing items with great care towards planning and the end result- some people don't work like that.

Because he is completely unwilling to accept any advice whatsoever. Look at the other threads.

up to $2000 for aero wheels but nothing for clipless pedals or even slotted cleats. You can't seriously think this is a reasonable way to spend money.

i don't know his budget, i don't know if his clipless shoes are on the way or if he thinks he's going to break the mold, but either way you guys arn't about to change his mind talking the way you are. All you're doing is building a taller wall.

a wise person said: "complaining is silly, either act or forget"
now you guys have given him advice (seems obvious) it's his job now to apply it. Fueling a hateful fan club isn't going to help when(if) he does apply the advice given and everyone gives him ****-looks due to his naive beginnings.

And the only reason i'm defending this at all is because when i break it down simply he is a guy taking a bike to the track to ride it, it's his bike, his money, his decision- but ultimately he's still trying to ride his bike and have fun- and you guys are telling him to do it your way or not at all.

I'd just like to tell you guys that I've never received so much attention in my life, and that is very flattering, but please don't go out of your way to research my weekend plans so you can photograph my tarck bike.

In other news, would you like to see my bike with bartape and ends? Dtret won't tell you this but they were actually taken off by a bike mechanic (without asking me). From the other thread:
