Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

cool story for the day

amongst all the cars and peds on the road who feel bikes are single handedly destroying their lives and who have no problems expressing their opinions on that.. there are a few who really admire the bike rider.

i was out riding and cutting through some neighborhoods when this little girl who was playing in her yard made the effort to run to the end of the driveway as i was passing by. all just to say, "that's cool!" with genuine interest in my bike. i don't know why, but that really made my day.

/end hippie-esque rant. haha.

one time me and my friend were riding in suburbia (on the sidewalk, shhh) and a kid's ball rolled into the way of my buddy....instead of slowing down, he bunny-hops over the soccerball and keeps riding...totally made that kid's day.

it's alright.. they had 'spinnas'. i mean seriously, who ever thought that was a good idea? although i do enjoy spinning random peoples spinners in parking lots and pretending i'm a 'playa'. but not the cheap reps from pep boys cause they either don't spin or they fall off.

As I was blasting my way through the last second of yellow light (hitting maybe 25) my friends happened to be on the corner and cheered me on.

^That happened to me last night!

Once a grizzled old commuter on a touring bike yelled "your doing a good job!" and gave me a thumbs up. I think it was because I was wearing a helmet and had lights on my bike.

Someone dude in cargo pants told me to return my pants to my sister this morning.

My hipster pride was wounded.

I was locking up outside a bar last week and this big south jersey meatstick approached me, and instead of laughing or making a disparaging comment, actually complimented my grips (you know, those ones with little white stars on them), and I'm pretty sure it was geniune - "Yo, those look awwesome dood" - he may have been wasted, I couldn't tell, but it was really really bizarre.

so i was riding home in the bike lane a few nights ago, and this guy rolls down his window and says " hey i wanted to talk to you in the bar i think you are pretty cute"

so i turned into a parking deck and rolled out the back of it.
i love short cuts,

but why do hot chicks never do this to me.
