Your worst pedal strike story?

Today I was just going pretty fast on some empty rural roads carving back and forth, didnt think i was leaning too far over and WHAM hit the pedal on the ground, spun myself 45degrees, managed not to fall and scared the **** out of myself... but i was happy i kept going....

so let's hear your worst (or luckiest) pedal strike stories..

I have had a couple pedal smooches on my Marinoni conversion with 170s, and way more on my low bb touring bike with 175's, but i haven't gone down yet *touch wood*.

People talk about pedal strike like it's a bad thing, but the truth is you're just one step closer to learning the intentional strike to powerslide in heavy traffic technique. By far the easiest way to initiate those fancy 45 degree skidz.

Really it's the logical next step in the evolution in the art of skidding. You have to realize that the point of trick skidz are that you look cool while doing something useless while needlessly wearing out tires. Now you get too add pedals to the list of wrecked innocent components while adding another layer of idiocy to the skid process itself.

I didn't live to tell the story.

My old roommate threw a pedal at me when he was working on a bike and I started making fun of tri-athletes. A frog to the leg can hurt.

My pedals requested overhauls, I refused, they picketed and I had to walk to work.

my friend clipped a retaining wall with his pedal, and about seven bricks exploded upward into his shin.

Being the moron that I am, riding the wrong way along the side of a highway and hit the curb. Knocked me out into traffic and just about into the front of a pickup truck.

one time i was going pretty fast and tried to lay down a big ole 45 degree skid to a stop, and when i started to lose it i thought i would just lay it down, but then the pedal struck the ground and the bike and i were pendulumed very quickly to the other side and i slammed hard. it was pretty idiotic.

not the typical form of pedal strike

No helmet. It sounded like a bowling ball when my head hit the pavement. When I regained consciousness I had a two piece collar bone and pebble embedded road rash down the left side of my back.

(I don't ride without a helmet now)

This is more embarassing really than death-defying.

I got smoked by this spandex-dude. Scared me so bad that I swerved out of his way, struck the curb and went down epically. Managed to leap off the 'cycle before hand, however, so I was unscathed, but foolish-looking

My worst strike was while riding a geared MTB with a milk crate on the back on a one-way city street. I filtered on the left side of traffic stopped at a light until reaching a dually crew cab pickup truck. I made it past the dually tires, but my left peddle struck the top of the curb as I tried to avoid the mirror. I landed on my feet, but the rear of the bike went up the side of the truck and by the open driver's window. The contents in the milk crate, i.e. a very nice leather portfolio, went flying over my head and landed in the street. Luckily, the driver did not have a hand or arm out the window. I think the driver was more rattled than me. Live and learn.

hottest day of summer, dangerous temps.....speeeding (in swimming attire/ towel around my neck of course) round corner at bottom of downhill to go swimming in local gorge....bam..., pedal hits, attempt to correct...no correction...bike stops, I fly ( 4 real, felt like I was launched off ground) through air...go rest/sit on sidewalk...lady comes up...u ok?...yea....you sure?, I saw the whole thing. that was a really bad crash....oh yea?....yea (nodding head like...yea, 4 real 4 real)...I think I'm ok, thanks....you sure?...yea, I didn't hit my head, thank you, really, I appreciate you're concern. I'm good....only sun I caught was sitting down on sidewalk...walk bicycle back up hill...gal who I was to meet up with eventually said one of my scars (hip/side) was sexy...least some good came out of it...still rockin' it
