Thanks. I have had good luck with the Planet Bike clip on fenders for the rainy summer we have been having this year. I like that I can very quickly remove them when the weather turns nice. The rear requires no tools and leaves nothing on the bike when removed. If you look closely you can see the Sheldon Brown fender nut in the front that allows me to just use a 10 mm wrench to install/remove the front fender.

JensonUSA did a price match for me of $648 when I showed them this link https://www.o2gearshop.com/catalog/pr...1}4163&cPath=1
That's probably the only deal out there, other than last years model in 59 and 52 cm, a big bike in this geo.

Alright I'll check out jenson and getting a price match. Would it better to buy the complete bike and sell off the wheels and seat and stuff and replace them with my current stuff or better to just build up the frameset? Besides color is there anything different between 08 and 09 frames?

09 has different cranks and saddle then the 08 one.

that's all i think... nothing noticeably different as you'd probably replace the saddle anyways and both the cranksets are pretty good...

Just built this up from some parts i got on ebay and locally. I need to cut the steerer tube and get some aluminum spacers. Wanted to run it for a little and see if i was happy with the bar height before i cut. I live on a mountain and i weight 200lbs so i needed 2 brakes.

Hey guys, What brakes are you all running on your Steamroller? I need to buy one but I'm a little confused. I see Long reach & Extra long reach? Any idea how long the reach is on a 53cm with 700 rims?

Thanks for any help,
-john

They've got a good write up about it on the Surly site: https://www.surlybikes.com/spew7.html

I rode standard reach (39-49mm) Tektros on mine and they still cleared 35c cross tires.

i went with the continent travel contacts. they're 37c but seem a bit smaller, i've attached an image where you can kind of see how much clearance there still is under the crown.

I live on a mountain and weigh over the 200, that's no reason for the brakes...
Unless you just happen to like having two brakes, which is fine. But seriously, even with 50 pounds of gear on the back I don't come close to needing two brakes. The front one does me just fine.

What pedals do you guys recommend for the steamroller? I'm buying a steamroller in a week or two. Is there anything that I should consider upgrading? How's the stock saddle?

Being able to scrub off speed without generating too much heat by alternating brakes is pretty much a no-brainer if you are riding in the mountains. Overheating a rim will cause tube failure, a blowout in front + steep twisties = dead biker.
