Never tried Somas or any other doubles before. I can say they are a fantastic upgrade over ****ty generic nylon singles (duh). I picked them up from an LBS in Minneapolis called The Hub (West Bank one), although I know you can order them online from Ben's Cycle as well.

EDIT* Just noticed you were talking about price. Can't speak to the Somas but the All-Citys were $36 at the shop.

these, the somas, dimensions, etc are all the same product

they're not bad for getting an idea of what doubles feel like, but I've been thoroughly disappointed with my somas. they slip off my feet, the clips slip (i used to run with the strap untucked so i could pull it tight when i was on and flip the tab to loosen them to get off. with the strap untucked, they slip an unbelievable amount when you pull your forward foot up to slow down. tucking them in reduces the slip). even if i tighten them down to my shoe size and tuck the straps though, my feet have a tendency to fly out when i pull up. my clips may be a bit small, but I think the straps just aren't that great.

i'm looking to get some mks or toshi singles. i can't spend a hundred dollars on some toe straps, i love doubles, but srsly.

edit: ideally i'd get the ale or campy laminated straps since theyre like 35-40 bucks, but i don't know how good they are. toshi and mks seem to be more proven for straps, so i may drop 60 or so on those...

All City has ripped SOMA off! don't paint them with the same brush, Somas clips are much nicer, All City has ruff edges to tear up your shoes.

Toshis are way nice but for 25% of the price the SOMA's rock.

Ebay bars. : ] they work well, probably much more robust than they need to be. They're super comfy though.

I'm pretty sure the All-City toeclips are the exact same as the Soma ones, just rebranded. Same for the double toestraps. My All-City track pedals are made by Wellgo with branding from both cos. on it, and are the same as the Origin8 track pedals. All-City and Origin8 track grips look the same too.

Basically what I'm saying is that many of these companies' products are just other products rebranded, or are all made in the same place. In that case, I just go with whichever one is cheaper or more readily available.

i'm thinking of putting a singlespeed wheelset on my kilo, fenders, a rack, a rear brake, and getting a felt tk3. then reverting my mtb to mtb and selling all the parts that will lose their function.

nah **** it. i'd rather buy a new camera and telephoto.
