During my lunch hour I often like to walk over to Recycled Cycles (Seattle) and dig through the used parts bins. I've been eyeing some TT bars to use with some used Soma Pursuit TT Levers I scored used a couple weeks ago. They have them new for $40 but this project is all cheapo.
SCORE!!
used bin Soma Pursuit bar - fiteen dolla
also:
unused bin noname 15t cog - one dolla
new ACS 18t freewheel - it's heavy as **** but will be used for the Greenwater - Sunrise ride (5K gain and back down) with some buds on multigears this weekend.

My IRO Mark V came in today, I rode it around for hours and it's so fun, but I haven't gotten brakes yet so basically just slowed down by resisting the cranks.
I ordered some basic silver Shimano Sora calipers and an equally basic black flat bar lever off of Jenson USA (I've got drops but I use the flats so much more). Purely functional, so I'm not really worried on aesthetics just yet. I just wanna save my knees!
In the market for some cheap bullhorns right now, but I'll probably wait till some money comes by...

Bought new pursuite bars, decided that without a doubt my frame is too long for my short arms, even with a 70mm stem.
Put the risers right back on until i get a new frame.
Bought a knee brace (much better investment) wich i should have been using every bike ride since i injured my knee this snowboarding season.

I just bought a pair of IRO wheels and MKS sylvans for my Lager (first FG!).... Tomorrow I'll order the brake and cog(s). I'm going to run a 44/16; any suggestions for the other side? I'm thinking about a low ratio since it's pretty hilly here.
I've been known to hurt my knees (nothing serious) from time to time... Is a knee brace a good preventative measure for biking, or is it more for treating a pre-existing ailment?

Jimmy, wearing a knee brace isn't a bad idea, especially if you have a history of weak knees! They do exactly what their name suggests, brace your knees. You should go to your local store, pick up an ACE knee brace and ride around with it. If it doesn't bother you too much, then go on your practice rides wearing one.

Thanks! I was kinda worried it would be irritating to ride with one... But maybe I'll give it a shot. If it saves the knees, it will definitely be worth it!

Totally, and in the long run picking up a $20 knee brace is better than paying your share of a $20,000 reconstructive knee surgery.

PreExisting. I hurt my knee pretty bad this last winter, and am dealing with the pain after every ride. Hopefully the brace minimizes it. So far so good.
