I'm converting an early eighties Puegeot CFX-10. I will be buying my bottom bracket from velo-orange because they seem to have the only easily available one that's french threaded. My back hub is 120mm and I will be using spacers to make it fit in the 130mm stays. I will be using a stronglight double crankset (pictured below) minus the small chainring. What size spindle should I order? Will I be able to fine tune the chainline by spacing the back hub differently and re-dishing the wheel? Do you need more information before you can answer? Thanks in advance for any help.

you shouldnt have to go as far as dishing the wheel out of center. spindle length and placement of chainring will fine tune it enough.

and do use spacers and not clamp down a 120 hub to a 130 frame.

It has right handed threads on both sides so it's French.

Is there any way I can measure my crankset to determine which spindle length to order?

Is there a local shop that can cold set the rear triangle so you don't have to worry about adding spacers to make the rear hub 130? That will at least cut down on the number of potentional problems.

The only thing the local shops can do is ruin a perfectly good bike and try to sell you a brand new one. Kalamazoo is definitely lacking in the bike shop department. I'm not really worried about the stay spacing though, I was just trying to give as much chainline related info as possible. What I really need to know is what bottom bracket to order. I can get them in 103, 107, 110, 113, 116, and 122 here https://velo-orange.com/grcrufrthbob.html . I'm guessing from what I've read so far that 113 and above will be to long. I plan to have the hub centered in the stays. Is there a standard or do I need to take some dimensions?

My wheels came in today! The back hub actually fits perfectly in my stays so that takes care of that.

I don't have any of the old stuff. I was thinking I could measure from the flat surface with the square taper hole on the bike side to the chainring to tell me part of the story. What I still don't know is if the spindle sticks out evenly on both sides or if it sticks out more on the crank side. I also don't know how far the crank will slide onto the taper.

Any of the old spindles were asymmetrical by ~2mm or so. The VO spindles are symmetrical which means you'd need to add ~2mm to the overall length of your old spindle. I.E. if your old spindle was 114 you'd need a 116 VO BB. Your crankset would've had approximately the same spindle length as any of the Shimanos from that same era.
