clicking bottom bracket?

i have a GT gutterball with a stock bb and crankset, when im pedaling there is a clicking noise that sounds like its inside the bb (could be wrong) doesnt happen when i pedal backwards (ss setup by the way) and doesnt happen if there isnt any weight on the pedals like when the bikes upside down and the crank is spinning free. in wondering if it just needs to be greased or if i have a bigger problem

its a really annoying sound, any insight would be great

I'd take it into a shop. Bottom brackets require special tools to really get up in their guts. Luckily for you they are also cheap to replace if it comes down to it.

check the chainring bolts and tighten. that could cause clicking noises. otherwise, take off cranks, reinstall bottom bracket. if it still persists, pick up a new bb. how old is your bb? has it seen rough weather?

I myself and others like to place teflon tape on the BB threads then screw it in.

Sounds like the bottom bracket. It might not be that bad. Sometimes just cleaning the old bearings, and putting in some good grease is all it takes. It's not all that difficult. Some BB's even have flat spots on the outer nut that you can gently tighten down.

teflon tape on the bb cups shut up my road bike, and having my rear wheel re-tensioned shut up my fixie. check your spokes.

so the pedals are tight, and the chainring bolts are as well, guess ill have to see about that bb, thanks for the info. just seems weird the bikes only 6 month old, does see its fair share of rain though, and maybe didn't come sufficiently greased from the dealer

Pay attention to those pedals bud. Pedals can be tight as **** and rotate fine but when you put some weight on them and actually deliver the force of riding to them, that's when the bearing click will show its face again. Just don't write them off as the problem just yet.

Make sure you have grease on the pedal threads.

I had a DH bike that clicked when pedaling, I checked the BB, crank, crankbolts, rear suspension linkage, rear shock, rear shock linkage, until finally i tried the pedals (I tightened those suckas as hard as I could previously, so I was sure they were ok). I took them off, applied grease to the threads and put them back on.

Voila!!! no more clicking! Always check the pedals have greased threads when you have clicking in the BB area first

Sounds like pedals to me too. I had the same prob and was sure it was the BB as well but all it took was a lil oil on the pedal bearings and the noise went away.
