To me it's a pointless gimmick frame, which is a very heavy 2.2 kg (4.8 lbs) w/o fork. When you add the 1.18 kg (2.6 lbs) aluminum fork, you're already up to 7.4 lbs. The actual bamboo portions comprise a small percentage of the frame, and quite frankly, IMO it's ugly as heck.

It doesn't even look like it uses bamboo in the frame.

It's annoying how they don't show a shot of the dropouts.

the chainstay wood part bulges as well. Again, it doesn't evenlook like bamboo, someone please correct me.

Could that explain the heaviness of the frame as bamboo is generally light.

Bamboo is green and hollow? Also its a fibrous plant not a solid wood. Those look like hardwood. Or some kind of refinished bamboo but either way its hollow and im not trusting a wooden hollow bike.

Bamboo isnt only green, it can also turn a yellowish color. Bamboo is very strong, but if you can get a nice chromo frame, why not?

The aluminum is recycled. It's not meant to be a weight conscious bike.

But I agree that the decals make it gimmicky and lame.

I guess that could be bamboo, but it looks like they went to Home Depot and bought some wood dowels and jammed them into a cut up frame. I could probably build one for 20 bucks.

I guess it"s not green enough that a person is riding a bike more, but you you gotta ride a bamboo one.

Bamboo can be pressed together in layers to form boards and any other shapes of lumber. This is how you get bamboo flooring that isnt just a bunch of half tubes of bamboo. The whole process probably makes it less green than a normal bike. Just go recycle an old bike and fix it up

+1 just because it doesn't "look like bamboo" doesn't mean it's not made of bamboo.

i agree that this bike looks like a serious gimmick.

and p.s. Calfee does make a bamboo track bike.
