Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I agree this is the most plausible cause of chain fail.

On another note, I also heard of a friend of a friend's chain broke while in traffic, brakeless. Ended up with head injury, concussion, hearing disorder in 1 ear and not being able to eat/drink for a few days. Moral of the story: front brakes.

to the OP:

yes, your front brake is plenty enough.

Take the time to learn proper body english on your bike rather than funny foot-stop tricks and you'll be fine

cobrabytre,
I'm pretty sure it's not complimentary as blowing up and "Yoda" are basically never used in a complimentary fashion but I honestly have no idea what you are saying.

It's not just chain breakage that the OP (or anyone) should be worried about as well. Sometimes, chains do throw as well. Like chain breakage, it's pretty rare if everything is in tip-top shape, but it still happens.

In which case, front brake FTW, again.
