Don't get me wrong, I think the OP is dumb.
But it's pretty hilarious that people are saying "6 MILES IS WAY TOO SHORT TO FEEL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIGH END TRACK CRANKS AND A CHEAP ROAD DOUBLE".
Because I'm pretty sure most track events are shorter than 6 miles, and I'm pretty sure super stiff cranks are most noticeable in all-out sprints regardless of how long your commute is. So, if anything, super stiff cranks make more sense for a 6 mile commute than a 20 mile commute, because you could possibly hammer that much harder for the whole 20 minutes it takes to go 6 miles.

Truly, the only logical choice for a budget fixed gear frame.

I drew the conclusion, based on OP's knowledge of cranksets, that he/she isn't an Olympic athlete and a set of cheap (but sturdy) older road crank arms would serve him just as well as whatever $300 crankset would.

6 miles is longer than what most people on this forum ride anyway so don't let them get you down.
To the people that say that the OP wont be able to feel a difference between the cheapo cranks and nice ones in a 6 mile ride, really???. If you've got half a brain you can tell the difference in about 6 meters.
To the OP get some omniums for 165 bones new or some used sugino 75's for around the same price, both are great cranks. A good drivetrain is a great thing to have...

I like beautiful machines and I can afford them.
The length of my commute, or the OP's commute, has no relevance.
He has the money, he wants to spend it, and he wants to know something about high end cranks.
I ride Sugino 75's with a Phil bottom bracket.
I don't like the aesthetics of the Phil bottom bracket (the cup sticks out on the non-drive side).
If I had it to do over, I'd go with a Sugino bottom bracket, for purely aesthetic reasons.
I have a white frame with all black components.
If black didn't matter, I'd have chosen the Dura Ace crank.
As it stands, I consider the Sugino 75 crank a work of art, worth every penny even if I just hung it on the wall and looked at it.
All the above said, my first fixed gear bike had a Sugino RD crank and I loved it.

Do you really think if someone buys a complete kit (cranks+chainring+bb) that they are going to get a quality BB for under 100 dollars? Or even for under 150?

You can get SRAM S300s from thebikesmiths.com for $88 shipped and it comes with a 48t 3/32" chainring and a GXP BB. It might not be the best BB, but it's certainly good enough for commuting.

That's not a bad deal at all. To be honest, I may be biased after riding my road bike, and after seeing so many budget crank kits with cheap BBs.

BB's are way overrated. I replace my BB once a year on my road bike. Right before race season and then it does all the winter base miles as well. I can't tell the difference between a new and fresh when i'm actually RIDING my bike. Well except when it starts creaking cause it wants grease, but yeah

Commuted thousands of miles (25-50miles/day) year round in northern mn on one piece cranks for quite a while. Unless you are trying to shave milliseconds off of your time at the velodrome, better tires or wheels would be a much better way to spend your money. IMO your commuter should be a comfortable tank, something that can take abuse haul lots of stuff and doesn't attract thieves.

yeah, i don't think you have to justify a nice bike even if it just sits in your room never being ridden, as long as you love it. that being said, i don't see how anyone could love a schwinn madison enough to put anymore than $50 into it (to replace a broken chain or something...) i say save some more money and buy a sick frame, then put some vintage components on it.
