Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

hope you know about the "wiggle" bike path on market that takes you through the "panhandle" that takes you to golden gate park. i found out and was amazed.
also time to get drops and sprint up hills if you dont have already.
and for a slow day. just go on the embarcadero along the shore for davis-level flatness.

p.s. which area of sf was your office in that got thefted?

i love riding in SF!
but i see weird things:
1. no one wears helmets (except me)
2. more $3-4k carpet fiber bikes locked up (poorly) outside of coffee shops

All of the designated bike routes on the SF Bike Map:
https://www.sfbike.org/download/SF_Bike_Map_2010.pdf

If you're living in SF, it's a good idea to buy this map for $10, or join the San Francisco Bike Coalition ($35) and get it for free. As you can see, it gives plenty of information about the city, including street grades local bike shops, and designated bike routes.

Lastly, if you haven't killed Twin Peaks yet--do it.

Lowering your gear ratio really helps.

Yo, welcome to SF man. Been here for almost 4 years and I love it also.
There's an event going on this Saturday and I think it's worth checking out. Here's a link:
