Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I got skinny feet so I have that problem with summer shoes too. Chuck Taylors especially so I replace stock laces or tuck the ends in under the laces between the eyelets.

Yes, I've got the SKS chromoplastics, and excellent they are too, after a bit of hacksaw work to get the perfect fit! Tell me this- how do you stop the front one vibrating on road bumps etc?

I couldn't find a pair of fenders to fit on my track bike(custom)/700c x 24 properly.
I managed to "Macgiver" an Eno Rear fender to fit on my downtube using the bracket that fits on the seatpost.
Worked great in light rain, but I figured I didn't want to ride my Track bike in the type of weather we get, so I set out to look for another SS.
My LBS mechanic laughed when I said I just picked up a Kona Unit to use in the fall & winter.
He said he's only allowed 1 bike, so he has a sick DH rig!!!
I'm down to 5 bikes now, sold 2, & trying/thinking of selling another.

Riding in the rain:
If it's really bad weather, I'll run my mountain bike with disc brakes.
-Road bike with frequent feathering (actually, more like semi-permanent)
-Slower speed

-RAT TAIL (saves that dreadful dreadful roadmark from the back of your jeans and shirt)
-front midguard of some sort (saves that roadmark from the front of your shirt
-OR A FULL FENDER SET.
-plastic bag to keep my seat dry when I'm in my destination
-Extra-visible lights
-my snowboard goggles if I'm bombing down a hill (I'll still pull 60 kmhs like an idiot in the rain. Yes, I've been in many accidents. No, I've not learned anything from them.)

better mounts. i just bolted the front to my rando rack and i think a randonneur rack is worth having half because it stabilizes the fender.

but nothing's better than good metal fenders and leather washers.

On my ride today, there was a stretch of the MUP where there was no way to avoid the goose poop it was so thick and widespread. Was so glad to have my shiny aluminum fenders (heck any fenders would have been good).

-SKS raceblades
-cycling tights with cutoffs, if its too hot i just wear shorts. **** soaking wet jeans.
-thermal with patagonia torrent shell. once it gets cold i add a hoodie.

I find up sprays from fast riding in the wet more bothersome than rattails.

Crud MTB fender

Woodys Teak Fender

Rain bike... although many of my other bikes have full fenders. I feel better subjecting this rather common 1975 AO8 to the rain than my less common and fairly rare 1957 Peugeot that has fenders but has never seen a drop of rain for as long as I have owner her.

Anyone have suggestions on warm, waterproof shoes that aren't boots? State College winter is rapidly approaching and my boat shoes won't cut it when the temperatures are below 40 degrees.
