Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

And they even made it a point to show how little they get paid. He also has a new truck...in New York. It is a crappy movie, even though I was still entertained. I'm just not okay with Hollywood being too scared to make masterpieces and how they continue to pump out mediocre movies.

I did enjoy the part where the main chick messenger is all pissed and throws her front wheel into a truing stand, spins it and it runs perfectly true but, decides to adjust it anyway

When audiences stop spending billions on mediocre movies, maybe things will change. It's show business, not show art.
Unfortunately, the mainstream studio system is in the worst state it's ever been if you are a cinephile.

But Premium Rush could only ever be sold the way it was. The fact it turned out "ok" is actually meaningful if you want more biking movies.

Maybe one day we will get another Breaking Away where a biking movie will be in Oscar talks...

no brakes, don't need 'em

EDIT: butchered that line.

I like to ride. Fixed gear. No brakes. Can't stop. Don't want to, either.

Somewhere in the darkest corner of my parents basement is a VHS copy of Rad. I'm embarrassed how many times I watched that film growing up.

The mainstream studio system is trying to figure out how it is going to avoid what happened to the recording industry, i.e. death by digital media. Good luck to them, because global indy cinema is alive and well and producing great stuff every minute.

Frankly I wouldn't mind if Hollywood collapsed, because then people would have to get used to the disappearance of formulaic "action" movies with nine-figure budgets, overexposed marquee stars and the ersatz work of armies of special-effects dweebs. Instead what you would have is cinema with actual stories about characters who behave like actual human beings, recorded on actual film. What a concept.

I think I'm going to write a bike movie about a group of seedy underground tt racers. It can have cool lines like "i live my life one derailer click at a time" or " you never HAD me
You never had your bike".

lol my thoughts exactly. Except I really enjoy the original F&F movie. The rest sucked, but the first one actually tried, sans some lame dialogue. Premium rush was made like a heineken commercial.

I remember watching a fixed gear documentary based in NYC. No dialogue, just music playing in the background. Forget what its called, but perfect to watch when you're stoned.

"I need carbon, I need carbon, my bike topped out at 45 MPH this morning"

"Amateurs don't use carbon, I've seen the way you ride"

I can already see our heroes fleeing a crashed, burning bicycle screaming "coconut water! Get back!" Than whoosh!! The bike goes up in a huge blue fireball.

I would love to see a cycling movie with a little Bayhem! Lots of 360 camera moves and cars blowing up...just cause.

Watched The Armstrong Lie last night. Definitely worth a look if you've ever had an interest in road racing.
