On a budget, Panaracer Ribmo vs Vittoria Zaffiro 700x28c tires?
Hey guys,
Looking for new tires for my fixed gear. 700x28c, right now my LBS is selling Panaracer Ribmo and Vittoria Zaffiro tires in that size. The Ribmo is $50 and the Zaffiro is $35, and I'm on a budget (aka I'm seriously cheap). How much better is the Ribmo than the Zaffiro? And I have to ask, what is the better tire for skids?
Thanks,
JGAN

I am riding both those tires currently. Ribmos have Kevlar under the tread and sidewall so they are relatively bulletproof. I've dug pea-sized chunks of glass out of them that didn't cause a flat. They have a crown that gives more wear than the Zaffiro but if you're skidding everywhere there may be better choices. That said, I'm guessing with occasional skidding the Ribmos will last twice as long. They also give a smoother ride on rough streets IMO.

Panaracer Paselas can be found cheap and are really good tires. Panaracer T-Serv Messengers are basically black Pasela tourguards. If you are willing to look around online can get 'em for about $30.

RiBMos are great tires, but $50 is way high priced for them. You can get the folding ones for only $34 at RG and the steel bead ones even cheaper elsewhere.

$35 for a plain Zaffiro is a lot of money as well. That's a $16-$20 tire elsewhere. Zaffiros are ok. They wear quickly, puncture protection isn't great.

Ribmos... how can you even compare a $50 tire set to a $35 one?
For skids you would want a soma everwear at the rear if you want a tire that'll last for reasons financial and having to replace the rear often.
