Atlanta/Smyrna Silver Comet Trail road ride suggestions

I'm visiting family in around Atlanta, about 200 ft from the Silver Comet Trail at Smyrna. I'm looking for a nice road route to try out in the morning...other than a very long & straight out & back on the SCT. Anyone have suggestions? Maybe a tangent from the SCT once it gets a bit out of town? I'd love to find something around 65 miles & I suppose I could do 32.5 out & then back if I didn't find anything more interesting....

thanks in advance

The length ride you are looking at just about gets you out to the point where road riding isn't a risk-taker's holiday. The ride from start to Coots Lake and return would be your length. It is a beautiful ride, especially beyond the Rambo trailhead where it goes through the Paulding Forest. The tunnel has had a few inches of water in it all summer I hear. Coots Lake has a beach so you could stop and swim at midpoint.

It really is a nice ride even out and back and traffic is simply awful in these suburbs. The beginning of the trail has lots of folks so you will start and end a little slower.

Thanks. I ended up just doing out & back for about 65 miles. I did talk to another rider at one point and was told there are some good areas to ride around Chastain park (sp??), maybe I'll just find a point to take off from the SCT & explore a bit next time. This time around, I had a nephew's 3rd birthday party to attend later in the day so I needed be mindful of the time.
