Did you do the Cotton Patch Challenge?
I met up with formerbrit and his son this morning. The original plan was to do the 41 mile route. Brit's 14 year old son had never ridden more than 21 miles and we thought that might even be pushing it. formerbrit was resplendent in his old wool British National Champion jersey. He looked great in it and I don't think his form was off much even though that particular jersey is over 30 years old!
Brit pulled the whole way to the rest stop at the 31 cutoff. His son asked how far is it and when we told him he said, "I feel great. Can we do the whole thing?" So off we went and did the whole 63 mile course, including the hills of Leonard (harder than I thought, but worth it!) formerbrit continued to pull the whole way (thankfully! I was beat after about 45 miles!) And his son was marvelous. We were both so proud of that young man for extending himself and riding so well! What a fine young man he is!
Anyone else ride it? The weather was near perfect this morning and it was really well organized and everyone helping had a smile on their face.
Crit's are tomorrow. We may go back and watch.

I made it out there. I was going for the 65 mile course, and started having muscle cramp problems at about 40 miles or so and had to sag in.
I was expecting those hills to be longer, and they weren't so long, just steep.

MG -- so that was formerbrit? I saw a big guy in what I thought was a British Team jersey.
Cool! Too bad I didn't know who you were. We'll have to meet up to ride sometime.
Pretty awesome how his son stepped it up. I'll bad Dad's proud!

Hey, formerbrit, if your son is ever interested in racing shoot me an email. No, I'm not hitting you up for coaching. I do work with a bunch of Juniors and we've got four new racers (around your son's age) on our team in NE Tarrant (Team Bicycles Inc). If you aren't close to there, I know some other Juniors in other places in the Metroplex and some other teams.

I drove a wheel truck for the RR, worked the TT and worked/raced the crit, so thanks for coming out!
That crit course is awesome. Great downtown venue, spectator-friendly (shade and views) and the organizers have a 5 year commitment from the powers that be (4 years remaining, now) to use that course.

Creakyknees, I probably brushed elbows with you. I'm the humongous official with all the curly hair and a beard. Which race did you follow?

Yeah I remember you now. We talked quite a bit. Good event you guys had. Sorry that there were so many whiners. Maybe some constructive criticism will come out but I thought you guys had a nice event. I wish I had made it out on Sunday. As it turned out though, it was a good thing I stayed home. I woke up to a sick two year-old.
