What is a 'big front rack' from Nitto?

Berthould in France makes classic touring racks frames bags and so forth,

Tubus has stainless low rider style rack too..

I have the black ergo rack, it's fine, that's one they have in the shiny stuff ..

It is a front rack from Nitto. See in the site of Nitto. It is a rack that can transport "things" in the top. The brands that you say, do not have racks with this capacity.

How about Rivendell?

https://www.rivbike.com/products/show...k-nitto/20-075

I use one, and the Tubus Cosmo.

The Jandd rack is in alluminium.
I asked Rividell, but they say that the costs of shipping to Portugal is 50 dollars, and I do not now if it has other costs when i receive. The ideal is to find a supplier of this rack(Big Front Rack Nitto) in europe.
The front rack of Surley (Ragley in europe I think), is similar, but it use mor hardware...

Thank you

The Japanese were inspired by the French Racks , the source is closer.

such as https://www.gillesberthoud.fr/anglais/index1.php

Gilles builds the racks as he builds the frame set, apparently.

That is the most annoying website I have ever used.

I do not see this rack..., only the Surly Rack is similar, but below the Nitto use only one screw fitting in the fork.

The Jandd extreme rack is aluminium, but if it's available near you, it does everything you want.

The whole 'steel vs aluminium' thing is overblown, steel isn't really easier to repair (thin walled material requires skill to repair no matter what), steel doesn't always give a better ride (The Cannondale touring bikes are known by many for their smoothness). So long as a bike, or accessory is well designed, either material can be made to work well.

functionally : 2 parts , low rider side pieces added to a rack like a BBurn Mtn Front rack,
rather than the hoop.

One screw fitting sounds like a weak installation, not a feature .. 4 is better .

My 2 lowrider racks are mounted in 4 places fork tip and Mid Blade of the fork.

I have separate rack for above the wheel .
Cantilever Brake bosses and fork crown bolts.. 3 places.

Anyhow, Rivendale has them, the Nitto Big Rack combination, US $182..
and will ship to any address,
delivery, pending Customs Holds, and VAT surcharges,

large carton air freight charges, based on carton size as much as weight ..

will bring the cost up significantly.

Its only money..

The Surly Nice Rack in that thread has the old style lower mounting brackets. Surly must have recognized the problem because the new racks come with a redesigned lower bracket.

I have this rack and hated it. It got bent on the second day of my tour. If you mount it on a LHT the sides of the rack will make contact with the down tube bosses when turning tightly. The paint also chips off of the rack very easily and looks like hell after just a few days use. Maybe it has improved since I used mine two years ago?

I read your opinions and I didn`t buy the Surly rack here in Europe. I dont liked the problem of the brackets. I bought a Big Front rack Nitto in Rivendell, and they Will send to Portugal(Europe).
Thank you for all of you.

Hi Nelson,

What are your impression now on your Big Front Rack and did it work as you intended?
Also, how long did it take for you to receive it from the US to Portugal?
