The 500M and Kilo are the only two events where a "give it all you got" standing start is used. If you are going out that hard on a 2K, then you are quite possibly doing it wrong and going out too hard in the beginning.

So, if you are doing a 2K, just about any triathlon TT bars will work (aluminum or carbon). If you are a big guy and are looking to use them for the 500M or Kilo, then do some research.

But, it seems like you are sticking with the Scattos for the 500M. This is a wise choice, in my opinion, especially on a bumpy track.

If you really want to experiment, I say try using the 35cm Scattos, the 33cm Alpina carbon drop bars or 33 (or 35cm, can't remember) Nitto B123 steel drop bars. Steel isn't that big of a deal. They are so small that the weight penalty of steel isn't that big of a factor. They are probably lighter than an aerobar kit.

I focused on the Kilo for a couple of years and I tied my PB that I set using aerobars (while peaking for the season) in later seasons while using 33cm drop bars..

I've written this a couple of times: Sky Christophersen ride a 1:06 (?) kilo and a 10.6" (?) flying 200M at Masters Worlds one year using the same 35cm Scattos for both rides. So, it's possible to do well with narrow bars.

Further, if you aren't 100% comfortable in aerobars (which takes lots of time and practice), you will likely be faster in drops.

Good point. Perhaps I was ultimately thinking I'd need three setups:

- drops for sprints/mass starts
- strong/rigid aero-ish for 500/kilo
- full aero for pursuit

If I can stick to the 37 Scatto LTDs (have wider shoulders) for the first two it'll be easier to focus and dial in two positions not three.
