I just don't want to get into personal shopping...which is what SSFG seems to be these days. 4 out of 5 threads are "What should I buy?", which sort of gets old.

Good luck finding something you like and getting your road bike rolling again.

All good man, we should just have a sticky that has recommended SS/FG for certain price ranges.

Thanks though, hopefully I'll find something soon.

I don't think having another sticky that no one bothers to look at before posting is such a good idea.

sad but true

Is there a way to restrict creation of a new thread, before a certain post count number for this forum only?

Why not create a bot that when a new thread is created it automatically replies with:
"Kilo TT - https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/trackbikes.htm - WE DO NOT KNOW WHEN IT WILL BE RESTOCKED, GO TO https://www.bikesdirect.com/contact.htm"

needs to be done.

Dear Carleton,

What's your opinion on electronic shifting? Such as the likes of Dura Ace Di2.

I think it's pretty cool. It's especially beneficial to those that use time trial bikes. Electronic shifting allows them to shift from both the bullhorns and the aerobars, whereas before they could only shift from the aerobars.

Right now it's really expensive, but most significantly advanced technologies are. Eventually when SRAM and Campganolo develop theirs, then Shimano will probably launch a 105 level group with hand-me-down technology from the current Di2. That's how Shimano has done things for decades.

Yes I think so too. But considering how long I've waited, I was tempted in early/mid 2009 to get it when it first hit shelves, but fearing first adapter's problems, I went with my gut for red. My next group would most likely be electronical; a higher end group through considering road cycling is my primary discipline.

Can we also have ones that say "YES, A BMX FREEWHEEL IS THE SAME AS A SINGLE SPEED FREEWHEEL AS LONG AS IT'S ISO THREAD" and "READ SIXTY'S GEARING PRIMER, STICKIED AT THE TOP OF THE FORUM PAGE" ? Together these would take care of 80% posts in this forum. (The other 20% being jackass threads. )

Dear carleton,

What are the chances of Uruguay winning the next FIFA World Cup?
-They placed 4th in the 2010 World Cup
-As of this year, they hold the all-time record for the most Copa America wins
-They placed 2nd in the U-17 World Cup (good talent pipeline)
-Star forward, Diego Forlán (2010 WC golden ball winner) is now 32, and will likely be too old in 2014

Sincerely,

Infidel79

Uruguay hasn't won in 80 years. They will make the 32 team cut and will probably make it out of their group. But I don't think they will win.

The octopus probably knows better than me, though.

Dear Carleton,

If given the choice of a titanium or carbon road frameset of your choice; which one would you choose and why?

Is Sram also developing an electronic group? I thought i heard they weren't gonna do that?

Not like i can afford anything of that caliber. But a kid can wish.

Carbon.

Titanium is flexy. It somehow retains an exotic reputation. A lot of people think that:

1) It's expensive because it's better
2) It's not popular because it's expensive, but more people would have it if it were not so expensive.

I have not found either one to be true.

I don't know as much as some about road equipment. But, I do watch how those that do know spend their money...and they buy carbon.

On the road scene, titanium bikes are about as rare as steel bikes these days. It's more of a boutique item sought after by people who refer to points 1 and 2 above. If it were a superior material, you would see more pro and semi-pro racers using them. Even Litespeed's flagship race bikes are carbon: https://www.litespeed.com/bike.asp?content=C1R

Campagnolo is supposedly looking into it, too. If SRAM is to keep up, it's in their best interest to do so. Plus, it's MUCH easier to be the second company do something groundbreaking as you can simply learn from the finished product of the first company. Look at how many iPhone clones popped up 6 months after the iPhone launch. They sucked. But, it only took a year for them to get to be OK. That's a fraction of the time it took for Apple to make the iPhone from scratch.
