Commuting Meals

I just started riding to work. By the time I am ready to go home, I am absolutely exhausted.

How can I build a good nutrition regime that will keep me energized through out the day?

It took me a good 3 months to get used to commuting everyday and another 3 to feel at ease with it. As for food you can eat nutrition bars in addition to your normal meals to carb up.

the choice is yours, certainly it takes getting used to but well worth the effort. Consider that a bike is considered a vehicle.

Thanks for the reply's. I took a look at the breakfast post, that should give me a head start. Anyone got any recommendations on websites that have good meal idea. I currently pull most of them off allrecipes.com.

Any other good sites out there?

I have an employee who commutes 16 hilly miles each way. His job involves considerable just plain hard work. He was kind of falling apart until I got him to use a protein+carb recovery drink immediately upon arriving at both work and home. He carries it to work, and leaves it in the frig at home. That seemed to fix him right up.

Quality oatmeal, slow burning energy that last for hours. Bananas, low fat chocolate milk, a light pb&j sandwich on whole grain bread & some unsalted nuts get me through my work days just fine. Make sure you eat at least an hour before leaving work. Eat light & often through your work day to keep your energy stores up & running. Big meals few & far between mean big crashes in energy.

Home made minestrone soup is my favourite. Tasty, mild, easy on your stomach, easy to make and you can change ingredients as you like.
