High-Energy Food Recipes?

I hope this is the right forum to post in; if not, feel free to move it.

Does anyone here know of a good, relatively easy to make alternative to pemmican, protein bars, "meal replacements" etc? When I went on a MTB tour in Colorado several years ago, my touring buddy made pemmican and a fairly small pack lasted over a week.

I'm getting into light touring again and need a food that's high protein and calorie, fairly cheap, compact, preserves well, and is fairly easy to make.
