It's finally cold in SE MN, and I've been rocking the Bar Mitts since we dipped below zero. They're great, but I have an issue with the zipper portion getting in the way of my shift cables. Both yesterday and this morning, I was not able to shift at all, making a RPM-fueled mess out of my ride in. Has anyone dealt with this problem? It seems that they're too tight across the cables, but there's no room to expand this area. If anyone has any thoughts, I'd welcome them. Might be time to contact the company, too.

I bought mitts made for a scooter from Amazon. I think they were about $15, if I recall correctly. I don't have any clearance issues.

Snagged some from Leo's South Alpine USA and also a set of Quadboss from Motoprimo both places in Lakeville. So far I am liking the Alpines a lot more due tot he cinch style enclosure vs velcro of the other set. However the other set is far more durable. There is no clearance issues with either of these they are designed for snow mobiles or atvs.

Both sets were $30. I also hear Fleet Farm has a $20 set but I never made it there nor found anything on their website. If you go there I doubt a associate will know what the hell you are talking about. Also the name could be either pogie, mitts, muffs, gauntlets.

The Moose Mitts I have close with velcro, so there's room for adjustment, similar to Mr Pink57's photo above. I think you could leave them loose enough so as not to impede shifting. Of course, that would let more cold air in, but might be worth it to you.

I have Bar Mits and they are great. About a 20 degree temperature difference. Using a lighter glove inside improves feel and comfort/convenience while riding. I'm a big fan. You can also get out quickly if you need to.

Are they pressing the cables against the bar or otherwise pushing them out of place?
My pogies are zipperless, you slide them on and cinch it with an elastic cord. They're pretty snug on the cables, but I haven't noticed any impact on shifting.

I do not have any gears so I am able to cinch them all the way down. Went for about a 3 hour ride a couple nights back with them with about 3 beer stops. They are nice it just sucks when you stop since you are not wearing big winter gloves like others might be. It can be a cold start after every stop.

Same here. And fixed gear also means no pawls freezing or derailleur/cable/shifting issues due to cold or frozen gunk.
