I performed the experiment. I bought a Park CC2 chain wear indicator. A bit pricey, to be sure.
It said my MTB chain and my daughter's bike chain were OK but my road bike chain with 3000 miles on it needed replacement. Barring horror stories, are we still agreed on the Shimano chains?
I replaced my 10 speed with Shimano Ultegra and have had zero problems.
Original chain had 2600 miles and I did not clean it as well as I should but the new one gets wiped after every ride( almost anyway
