Being a non-racer, 9-speed is more than I usually need.
I race on 9 speed. It doesn't hold me back. For hill races I have a 19-23-25 in the back instead of my usual 19-21-23, and since swapping cogs in a cassette takes about two minutes, it's not a huge thing.
