If you want to up the number of TTs, you might also try some relay triathlons - I do the Philadelphia Tri with my brother (the swimmer) and old college roommate (the runner) and have a blast. There are more riders on the road, but you're not supposed to draft and it's not a crazed peloton diving for the curb.
One last pitch for CX, it looks far more crazy than it is and even if you crash, it's on soft earth. The significantly lower speeds make drafting pretty much a non-issue. And, I, like you perhaps, have no desire to paint the asphalt with my face in a crit, but have no such anxiety in a CX race.
SDad: After thinking about your post, I have to admit it has merit. The reduced speeds would negate drafting for the most part and falling in the dirt is much different than eating pavement at 25mph. I ride horses and have never been hurt falling off one of those.
I live northeast of Boston. Maybe I'll ask around at the bike shops I go into. Funny, I never really thought about CX racing even though I own and ride 2 CX bikes. When I raced (ran) cross country in school it was always a good, dirty time. Thanks.
