the new 'muter - a Phillips 3 speed. As the AW hub doesn't have an accurate date stamp (don't ask), dating from components and online photos, I'm guessing late '60's.

I weighed it with the lock and chain in the bag and with that, the Brooks mattress saddle and Wald basket, it weighs about 41 lbs. I just swapped for my B17, so it might be 40 now...

My commute is half gravel, half pavement, and some decent hills. Nothing absurdly tough (one hill is perhaps 12*, but there are some LONG hills. Comparing this to my drop-barred, 700X38c, 21 speed Univega Activa Trail, this bike adds anywhere from 10-15 minutes on a 7 mile (one way) commute. Most of that, I'd guess is in the headwind or just general drag from sitting upright vs. bent over. In all fairness though, my handlebars are rather high on the 'Vega - the tops are at handlebar height.
