From my first derailleured bike (a 1961 Schwinn Super Continental 15 speed) to today in my sixties, I've
always ridden triples because I
love climbing hills with
low gears.
Living right in the middle of extremely steep canyons, I run a 21-30-44 mountain bike triple with a small lightweight close ratio 12-13-14-15-16-17-19-21 cassette on an old 1974 Raleigh 23 pound touring bike...
Without any crosschaining the gears are very evenly spaced from 27 to 99 inches:
small: 27-30-33-35
middle: 39-43-48-51-54-58-62
large: 63-70-74-79-85-91-99
I
don't need anything higher than 100... 'cause I'm old.
