absolutely untrue. road diets have been shown to actually increase traffic thruput while reducing the amount of general vehicle lanes. Level of service of roadways can be maintained while being reconfigured to take away space from motor vehicle traffic.
and in a discussion on how to redesign North American cities for people, this reallocation of space is a necessity.
