I have experienced fixed drive Nirvana with a Miche Track ring up front, a german made track cog I got thru J+B importers, and the Sram PC-1 track or 1/8 chain, so there were no tight spots, and even 1/2 in of slack, and lubed with some good stuff that holds out well , under pressure.
If moneys tight, make due with what you have, and keep a good chain on the bike with min stretch. A stretched chain makes alot of friction.
And if you ride hard, and alot, stick with 1/8 chains and cogs/chainrings, they have a stiffer feel and last longer.Dial in the chainline with the thin 1mm cog spacers if you can get em
