1. got lube on your chain?
2. clean your drivetrain.
3. is your chainring loose? (happens via skidding)
4. is your crankarm loose?
5. is your chainline relatively good?
6. is your chain too tight? can your rear wheel spin relatively freely without binding?

that should fix 99% of the problems.
