Thanks everyone for the info.

I'm familiar with the model and know it was the first real mainstream-marketed mountain bike, and all that. And I did find some stuff on the web, although actually not a lot for this model year. My remark about searching was in reference to the BF search function, which didn't turn up anything. I thought that implausible, given that this is a pretty ubiquitous bike and brand.
