I can lift with it, but even riding around campus a little too hard kills it.
Doesn't matter if I'm riding with clips and straps or SPD-SL's.

If I were you I would do lots of lower-body lifting and any sort of cardiovascular activity that your knee can handle. Rowing machine maybe?
