My C'dale 500T has the RSX triple on it and I can see its benefits in hilly or rolling areas. Pensacola is flat as a board all around the place (right on the Gulf.) I am considering a compact double now since I don't have the call for a granny where we ride. Any recommendations as to which Shimano line to use since RSX is gone? Can I still use my FD and just set the limit screws? Just doing some brainstorming this evening.

Tiagra is in roughly the same place in the Shimano hierarchy as RSX once was.
If you don't need the lower gearing of a triple, do you really need a compact double? I find a 39 tooth small ring much more practical than a 34 for flat land riding. Much less shifting between the two rings.
