De Rosa Restoration Advice
I bought a 1992 De Rosa SLX with a frankengolo gruppo. Mostly it's a mix of Chorus and athena of various years with a little Victory mixed in. Anyway, I am debating how to equip the bike and would like other people's insights...
The options are...
1. Keep it the way it is. The stuff works decently and the bike is gorgeous, I just feel like the frame deserves a better dress.
2. Do an era specific restoration of 91', 92' or 93' campy c-record parts. My question with this option is how was that gruppo? My memories of campy from the late 80s are not positive...over rpiced, fragile but pretty.
3. Put on a more recent gruppo (I can't afford new). Something like a 9 speed record group from 2003ish.
4. A combination there of...maybe the older cranks, newer shifting and deraileurs, newer brakes, old seat post, headset and BB.
5. A non-campy gruppo or mix. How sacrielgeous would it be to use shimano and/or sram?
I'm not looking for a "do it like you want" answer...I'm looking for various insights and opinions of how others see the issue.
Thanks all!
