Yes, a lot depends on a lot. As I said, I doubt rims built to a 30 year old design need super special care, depending on weight and terrain. I've had lots of good luck on all sorts of rims. I don't know why. Perhaps I ride with a technique I'm not even aware of. I suspect I don't put much weight on the saddle, so that could explain my luck.
